Position Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:

To perform evaluations, establish appropriate goals, formulate treatment plans, provide treatment interventions, maintain comprehensive documentation, and assist with coordination of care within the scope of practice of speech language pathology for pediatric patients in the inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory care clinic and home settings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs objective evaluations/re-evaluations appropriate to area of service delivery, based upon diagnosis or indication for referral, medical history/status, chronologic/cognitive/developmental age, parent/caregiver concerns, according to hospital and department policy and procedure. Uses objective information to determine current level of function & appropriate level of service provision. Identifies appropriate, measurable long-term and short-term goals in formulating treatment plans & directing therapeutic interventions. Continuously assesses/reassesses patient/caregiver needs, response to care & modifies plan of care as needed based on outcomes, goals and according to patient status.
  • Provides high quality patient care by performing therapeutic interventions that reflect appropriate clinical reasoning and that are directed towards goal achievement and clinical outcomes. Adequately prepares for sessions beginning and ending on time. Demonstrates good problem solving skills and ability to adapt without difficulty.
  • Completes comprehensive documentation in a timely manner, according to hospital and department policy and procedure that clearly and concisely records patient’s status, plan of care, interventions provided, response to care & your clinical involvement with the patient. Documentation clearly supports billed charges.
  • Uses a multidisciplinary approach in identifying and addressing needs, facilitating goal prioritization & accomplishment, coordinating care and facilitating open two-way communication within and outside of the organization.
  • Facilitates growth and skill development of patients, caregivers, staff, students and community by providing education and openly sharing knowledge and expertise. Utilizes internal and external resources to enhance one’s own knowledge base.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Requires the ability to communicate effective, both verbally and in writing
  • Requires basic computer skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of Master’s Level program in Communication Disorders/Speech Language Pathology
  • Must possess current Certification of Clinical Competency
  • Would consider candidate completing Clinical Fellowship Year; Continued employment contingent upon obtaining Certification of Clinical Competency
  • Must possess current valid Nebraska State License in Speech Language Pathology
  • Must be certified in Basic Life Support
  • Experience with pediatric patients preferred
